As much as I love to decorate my home for the holidays, it never seems to feel like Christmas until it smells like Christmas. Cinnamon, orange, nutmeg, these are the scents I love the most. The best way to create a Christmas atmosphere in your home is with a diffuser. Since I don’t like to move my nice diffuser from room to room, I decided to give reed diffusers a try. I’m glad I did because they’re a great way to add fragrance to your home that lasts throughout the holiday season. They also aren’t as strong as some of the plug in fragrances you find at the store either. I don’t like for my home fragrances to be overpowering.
What I like most about my DIY Reed Diffuser is that I know exactly what’s in it…no chemicals I can’t pronounce or have to worry about. You can make your own DIY Reed Diffuser to celebrate Christmas this year, too. All it requires is a few ingredients you may already have around your home and some essential oils. Let’s see!
Christmas DIY Reed Diffuser Materials:
- Glass jar with a small opening
- 1/4 cup of carrier oil (Grapeseed, Sweet Almond, Olive or Sunflower)
- 2 T. rubbing alcohol (vodka works, too)
- 10 drops YL Christmas Spirit Essential Oil
- 7 drops YL Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
- 3 drops YL Nutmeg Essential Oil
- 5 bamboo skewers
How to make a DIY Reed Diffuser:
Combine the oils in a glass container and mix well.
Add the alcohol and mix well. Make sure you don’t skip this step. This is what helps the scented oil travel up the reed!
Pour the mixture into glass jar. It’s important to use a jar with a small opening so keep the mixture from evaporating.
Trim the bamboo skewers to remove the pointy ends. You can do this easily by making an indention in the wood first with a knife or pair of scissors before breaking them off.
Add the skewers to the jar and spread them out. The scent will travel up the reeds and release into the air.
Be sure to flip the reeds over every few days (at least once a week) to freshen the scent and keep the oils moving in the reeds. If you can’t smell the holiday scent any more, it’s time to give the reeds a flip.
It’s time to forget expensive store-bought reed diffusers! Why pay a lot of money for a reed diffuser at the store when you can make one for cheap? Now that you know how to make them at home with all natural ingredients, you’ll never look back. It’s easy to customize. All you have to do is switch out the essential oils to match the season, tastes or even your mood. Experiment until you find the right scent for you. Have fun making your own DIY reed diffuser today!
Wow, amazing! I love DIY, and also love the scents from reed diffusers. I think we can make DIY reed diffusers not only for celebrating Christmas’s day but also any special day, Valentine or Birthday… I also prepare my own reed diffuser with my favorite scents. I’d been wondering how to do it and had been having trouble finding reeds. Then I found many different stems or weeds that can exchange with reeds, they serve well too. So enjoy to reading your blog, thanks for great post! Have a good day 😡
