Making homemade lip balm has been on my list of things to make and I’m happy to say I can finally check it off my to-do list. This Christmas Spirit Lip Balm was surprisingly simple to make. I had been putting it off since I don’t have a good record when it comes to making projects with wax. Now that I’ve survived this project unscathed, I’m putting my fears to rest and can’t wait to try out new recipes using beeswax and essential oil!
The recipe for this Christmas Spirit Lip Balm only requires 4 ingredients and doesn’t require a lot of effort. Can you believe I’d never used a double boiler before making this lip balm? In fact, I don’t even own one! That’s OK, because I created my own with stuff I already had in my kitchen. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to make my own with a pot and mason jar, and I can’t wait to tell you about it.
Christmas Spirit Lip Balm Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon Beeswax Pastilles
- 1 tablespoon Organic Coconut Oil
- 1 tablespoon Shea Butter
- 7 drops Young Living Christmas Spirit Essential Oil
- Lip Balm containers
If you don’t have the Christmas Spirit Essential Oil, you can make a similar blend using 3 drops of Cinnamon Bark, 3 drops of Orange, and 1 drop of Idaho Blue Spruce essential oils. I only used 7 drops of oil in this recipe because I didn’t want the scent to be overpowering, but feel free to add more if desired.
Also, you are going to need a large pot and mason jar to create a double boiler. Of course, if you already own a double boiler, feel free to use it instead.
How to make the Christmas Spirit lip balm:
Create a double boiler system by first adding 2 inches of water to a pot and placing in on the stove burner over medium heat. Combine the beeswax, coconut oil and shea butter in a Mason jar and sit it inside the pot (see picture below). Slowly bring the water to boil and let it continue to boil until the beeswax, oil and butter in the Mason jar are completely melted.
Using a pot holder, carefully remove the Mason jar from heat and add the Christmas Spirit Essential Oil to the liquid. Be careful because the liquid will be really hot! Stir well.
Spoon liquid into lip balm containers and let them cool. I purchased mine at Target, but you can also find them at Hobby Lobby and others places.
The Christmas Spirit Lip Balm will be ready for immediate use after it hardens. You can place the containers in the freezer to speed up the process if desired.
These would make perfect stocking stuffers or small gifts for friends and loved ones this holiday season. It doesn’t require a lot of time, effort and money to make them, but the thought behind a homemade gift goes a long way.
Can I say I just love the smell of this Christmas Spirit Lip Balm? It really does remind me of Christmas! I also love that the recipe uses all natural ingredients, so I know what I’m putting on my lips. It’s super moisturizing and keeps lips from getting chapped during the colder months ahead, too. I hope you enjoy the simple recipe as much as I have already. Let’s just say I’m not lacking any Christmas Spirit this year. If I do, I’ll just make more of these! 🙂
How many lip balm jars did this recipe make?
Hi Stacy,
This recipe filled 3 lip balm jars perfectly for me.
Thanks for checking out the recipe,
Christie
What size are the jars you used?
I’m sorry, but I’m not sure. They were small lip balm sized jars I found in the dollar section at Target. I’ve seen similar ones at Hobby Lobby, so be sure to check them out.
HI, Just wondering if this lip balm can be left out or it needs refridgeration? How long will it keep? I am looking forward to giving this a try. Thanks 🙂
This lip balm can be left out and should stay solid except in high temperatures. It should last indefinitely. As long as it smells good you can keep on using it. 🙂 I hope you enjoy it!
Can this lip balm be put in tubes vs the pots? Thanks.
Sure! You can pour the mixture into tubes if you wish. Thanks for checking out this recipe!
Hi Christie
Have you perhaps made an effective headache balm or sinus balm?
I’m quite desperate to make effective balms for both.
Thanks 🙂
Hi Clair,
I haven’t, but these sound like projects I may consider in the future. I love using essential oils to support my health and since I have sinus issues a lot this is right up my ally! Thanks for the wonderful idea!
Christie
Where did you buy the beeswax?
I found my beeswax at my local Hobby Lobby store.
Can’t wait to try your Christmas Spirit lip balm recipe! Other than the oil itself, I found everything on Amazon. I’ll probably need to order another bottle of oil from YL! Thanks for sharing!!
My daughter’s friends will love getting this & I’ll feel goods about it, because I know what’s in it! Win-win. Thank you for sharing this.

Yay! I haven’t tried using tubes yet, but it’s on my to-do list. I’m glad you liked this simple recipe!
Love the ideas. Keep up the good work.
I’m excited to try this. I don’t have any Christmas Spirit oils but I do have Cinnamon & Orange. I have made lip balm before but this sounds wonderful! It will be perfect for small gifts! Thank you for sharing!!!
