Speed Spring Cleaning Guide
Bedrooms: 2.5 Hours
- Start by washing all bed linens. That includes all dust ruffles, sheets, pillowcases, mattress covers, quilts, throws, etc.
- Clean window treatments. Check the window treatment instructions first, then wash what you can at home or take to the dry cleaner. For heavy drapes you can clean by using the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove any dust. Also clean any blinds with a damp cloth.
- Wipe/vacuum walls and ceilings and dust all surfaces, working from the top of room down. Don’t forget to clean your ceiling fan! Vacuum the floors to remove any fallen dust.
- Clean all windows and mirrors.
- Wash any area rugs that are washable, or take them outside and beat them to remove dust.
- Vacuum or sweep/mop floors.
TIP: When you wash your bed linens, start in order of what goes on the bed first. That way you can easily put them back on the bed as they come out of the dryer. For example, dust ruffles, mattress pad, sheets, etc…
Bathrooms: 1 hour
- Throw any area rugs into the washer.
- Wipe down walls and ceilings, working top to bottom. Use your vacuum if necessary.
- Clean all mirrors and windows. If you have any window treatments, clean those also, using the methods listed previously.
- Clean all sinks, toilets, tubs and showers.
- Sweep and mop the bathroom floors.
TIP: Spray sinks, toilets, tubs and showers with a foaming cleaner and let it soak and work while you work on other tasks, then rinse clean before you complete your last task, the floors.
Kitchen and Dining rooms: 2 hours
- Clean out the refrigerator and freezer. Remove contents and wipe down shelves, being sure to toss any expired or unwanted food before placing food back.
- Clean all kitchen appliances. You can use your oven’s self-cleaning cycle, or use a degreaser to clean the inside of the oven. Wipe any toasters, coffee pots or other small appliances, along with the inside of your microwave.
- Wash windows and mirrors.
- Clean window treatments. Check the window treatment instructions first, then wash what you can at home or take to the dry cleaner. For heavy drapes you can clean by using the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove any dust. Also clean any blinds with a damp cloth.
- Wipe/vacuum walls and ceilings and dust all surfaces including cabinets, working from the top of the room down.
- Sweep and mop floors.
TIP: To easily clean your microwave, use a lemon to loosen the grime. Slice a lemon in half and squeeze out the juice into a small bowl. Drop the lemon halves into a bowl and add 3/4 cup of water. Microwave on high for about 3 minutes, until the water starts to boil. Let the bowl stand in the microwave for 5 minutes, then remove the bowl and easily wipe the sides of your microwave clean.
Living room/family room: 2.5 hours
You may want to use a carpet cleaner machine to shampoo any stained or heavily used rugs.
- Clean any upholstered furniture. Take cushions outside and beat gently to remove dust. You can also use your vacuum’s upholstery brush to vacuum over and underneath the cushions. If you see any stains, check the care labels of the cushion covers and follow the instructions.
- Vacuum carpets and/or sweep and mop floors.
TIP: Protect your wooden furniture from scratches by applying a paste wax made for furniture. Apply small amounts of wax in small sections using a cloth rag. Let it dry, then buff until it shines, making sure you remove any excess wax.
You’re finished! I know that was a lot of work, but doesn’t your home feel so much fresher and cleaner? Since you’re worked so hard, I think you should take the night off. Order a pizza and just relax.

Needed in my life. Seriously. I sometimes get overwhelmed with cleaning. As soon as I pick something up, my kids take it out! LOL Pinning and sharing.
I agree with Sharon! I hate cleaning…but its so great to have a game plan going into it. I LOVE this printable!! There are so many things I think we forget to clean on a normal basis and spring cleaning lets us remember all of those things..like picture frames…ceiling fans (the top of the whole thing..not just the blades), base baords, chair rail, behind your fridge, stove, washer dryer (those places build up so much crud!)..and so on.
One thing I do look forward to is doing all of the deep cleaning and knowing everything will be taken care of!
shared everywhere 🙂
Yes, I did some deep cleaning of my own yesterday. There are some things that I often overlook when I clean…Hint….there will be a post on that next week! I’m so glad you like the printable and I hope it comes in handy for you. 🙂
Great way to do the spring cleaning. Now if I can just get past the craft supply hoarding….
Um…yes…I need to go through my craft supply closet soon. I know as soon as I get rid of something I’ll need it, though! LOL
