Hot Chocolate Cupcakes That Will Cozy Up the Holidays

The holidays are the perfect time to cozy up with a warm mug of hot chocolate. It warms both the body and soul. There’s nothing quite as comforting as a cup of  hot chocolate, unless it’s a Hot Chocolate Cupcake, of course!

Today’s recipe for Hot Chocolate Cupcakes are not only a super cute treat for the holiday season, but they taste amazing, too! Hot chocolate flavored cupcakes topped with marshmallow buttercream frosting…they’re pretty much a cup of cocoa in a cupcake liner. 🙂 And those mini marshmallow and straw decorations? Hot Chocolate Cupcakes with Marshmallow Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients for the Cupcakes:

  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup hot chocolate mix
  • 1 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk

Ingredients for the Frosting:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 7 oz. jar of marshmallow fluff
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

You will also need mini marshmallows and decorative straws for decoration.

Recipe Directions:

For the Cupcakes:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray a muffin tin or add cupcake liners. In a large bowl, mix together cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, hot chocolate mix, cake flour, sugar, milk, eggs, and oil. Mix with a mixer 2-3 minutes, until smooth. Pour mixture into a cupcake liners or muffin tin, 2/3 full. Bake 20-22 minutes.

For the Frosting:

Cream together butter, marshmallow fluff, vanilla, and salt. Alternate adding small amounts of the powdered sugar and heavy cream, mixing between each addition. If your icing is too runny, add more powdered sugar.

Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting. Add a small layer of frosting, then top with mini marshmallows and a fun paper straw. Enjoy!

Hot Chocolate Cupcakes With Marshmallow Buttercream Frosting

For the Cupcakes:

  • 1/2 cup oil
