Moving Day. It can be such an exciting day, but also overwhelming to say the least! I remember both the excitement and trepidation when we made our move last year. We survived it all, and so can you! The good news is there are ways you can prepare to make moving day less stressful.
Listed below are 9 ways you can make moving day less stressful. From creating a basking for essentials to having a list so you are organized and ready, these tips will come in handy for the big day!
Moving Tips Everyone Needs to Know for Less Stress On Moving Day
#1 – Moving Apps
Download an app on your phone to help keep you organized throughout the moving process. You can find tips and tricks, a moving checklist and even more on these apps. Just search for them in your app store!
#2 – Pack Essentials In Basket
Make sure to put essentials that you will need when you first arrive at your new house in a basket or container. Make sure everyone knows not to touch it so you can keep track of it and keep in handy. Pack items like medicines, phone chargers, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, etc. in it. Then you will know exactly where the essentials are and won’t have to go digging through boxes to find what you need when you arrive at your new home.
#3 – Moving Day Checklist
It’s important to plan out ahead what needs to be done on the big day. Do this in advance so you won’t be stressed out and forget important tasks on moving day. Share the list with anyone helping so you can work as a team to check things off and get them done.
#4 – Paper Plates and Utensils
Go ahead and pack your dishes up days before you leave and use paper plates and utensils until the big day. Then toss the remainder of supplies in your essential basket so you won’t have to hurry at getting the kitchen un-boxed on move in day.
#5 – Get a Dolly
Think about borrowing or purchasing a dolly to make moving much easier. You can stack boxes 4-5 high and roll them to where they need to be loaded. This will help a ton on time instead of walking back and forth with one box. Plus it can save you from possible back injuries from heavy lifting!
#6 – Supply Lunch and Drinks for Helpers
It is always nice to show how much you appreciate your friends and family for helping you move. Grab a case of water and soda and put them in a cooler and have a basket packed with cookies, crackers and such they can grab and eat if they want a snack. You can either order pizza or sandwiches to provide them with a meal and drinks for them to refuel as they work.
#7 – Pre-Clean New House
If you can, this is always a good tip! Go to the new house before moving day to do a little cleaning on the kitchen and bathroom. Stock toilet paper, towels and such so on the day of the move when you are beyond exhausted you will have all the essentials for a warm shower right there. If you can’t get in ahead of time, just put this in the essentials box and do it first thing before you start moving things in your home.
#8 – Screws and Bolts
When you are taking things apart, like curtain rods, mounted TVs and such, put the screws in a little sandwich bag. Then tape it to the back of the item. That way when you get to the new house, you have the screws and bolts right there.
#9 – Computers and Electronics
If you have a computer, take a picture of all the cords and where they go on the back of the computer monitor and stand. You can do the same for your electronic devices. That way when you go to put it back together you can look at your picture for help to know where it all goes. This is great for those who aren’t too tech savvy.
