Have you been looking for a unique way to spice up your home decor for St. Patrick’s Day this year? Do you want to add some pizzazz to a plain pillow cover, but you’re not sure what to do with it? Well, I have the solution for you today with my Lucky in Love Four Leaf Clover Pillow Cover. I came up with this idea when I was still high on love from Valentine’s Day and feeling lucky to have such a great hubby and- voila…this project was born!
I’ve never been big on decorating my home for St. Patrick’s Day. I guess it’s because my family isn’t Irish…or maybe because I never enjoyed getting pinched at school for not wearing green when I was growing up. Whatever the reason, I usually don’t do a lot for St. Patrick’s Day, but this year I decided I wanted to add a little something green to my living room decor. I came up with the idea of a simple but cute pillow cover and, what can I say? I’m lucky I found something I love! 🙂
You know I can’t keep all my ideas to myself, so let me tell you how I made this fun project.
You will need the following to make the Lucky in Love Four Leaf Clover Pillow Cover:
- Pillow Cover
- Green felt
- Red Felt
- Scissors
- Pen/marker
- Sewing machine/coordinating thread
- Four Leaf Clover Pattern (I used Extra Large Four Leaf Clover Cut Out – Heart Shaped from What Mommy Does)
My first step is to cut out a four leaf clover from the green felt using the pattern. A big thanks goes to Lena from What Mommy Does for her awesome free printable pattern!
Next I traced one of the clover leaves onto a small piece of red felt. Using the scissors, I cut out a felt heart slightly smaller than the size of the leaf.
I stitched the red heart onto one of the clover leaves using my sewing machine. So far so good!
I positioned the clover on the fabric and pinned it into place before using my sewing machine to stitch it onto the pillow cover.
I admit, this was the first time I’d ever stitched something this intricate with my sewing machine. It was quite a feat, but much easier than I’d imagined and didn’t take me very long. But if you want to do things the easy way, you could always hand-stitch or even use some fabric glue to attach the clover to your pillow cover.
The last step is to pop in a pillow and find a nice place to display your four leaf clover pillow cover. This is the easiest part!
I am seriously in love with this pillow cover, and I can use all the luck I can get around my house! This four leaf pillow cover is so cute I think I may leave it out past St. Patrick’s Day this year. What do you think? Will you give this project a try?
