Do you have a set of napkins that are boring and plain, but you’d like them to have some pizzazz? Well, today I’m going to show you a simple way to spice them up with a little bit of fabric paint. You are going to be surprised at just how easy it is to make these DIY personalized napkins.
When I picked up a set of white napkins that were on sale at Hobby Lobby a while back, I really wasn’t sure what I would do with them. I put them in my craft closet and eventually forgot about them, like I often do when I buy items I don’t really need. But when I cleaned out my closet recently and rediscovered them, I decided it was time to put them to use. Since I had an upcoming trip planned to visit and stay with friends, I knew a set of personalized napkins would make a great gift for them. I grabbed some fabric paint and got busy working on these napkins before I forgot about them again! This super quick project is oh-so-easy, but makes a great personalized gift for someone special.
Here is what you will need for this simple project:
- Stencil Brush
- Letter Stencil
- Pencil
- Fabric Paint in colors of your choice
- Fabric Napkins (washed and ironed)
Start out by placing the letter stencil a few inches above one of the corners of the napkin. Use the stencil brush to paint the letter onto the napkin. Repeat for each napkin.
It looks great so far, but now let’s add some cute polka dots. It’s so easy to do using the eraser of your pencil as a stamp!
All you have to do is dip the eraser end of the pencil into the paint, then press it onto the napkin.
Add polka dots to each napkin in the corner surrounding the letter initial. I added my polka dots to the napkins one color at a time, wiping the eraser with a paper towel before switching paint colors. Let the fabric paint dry for 72 hours and then your new DIY personalized napkins will be ready for use.
I gave this set of napkins away to friends along with some herbal tea and flavored coffee as a small hostess gift. It was a perfect way to show my thanks for their hospitality during our stay at their home for the weekend. Nothing says thank you like a handmade gift if you ask me. So, hint, hint…you can always make me a gift and I’ll be happy!
Wouldn’t you like to receive a set of these cute napkins as a gift? These DIY personalized napkins would make a great wedding gift paired with a bottle of wine or a beautiful set of napkin rings. Or maybe you’d like to make a set for yourself? That’s what I’m thinking about doing next. I’m thinking of decorating mine with gold, green and yellow polka dots.
It may have taken me less than an hour to create these unique DIY personalized napkins for my friend, but now every time she uses them she’ll remember that they were made especially for her with love. Tell me, what handmade gifts have you received that you’ve adored? I’d love to hear about them.
