Have you been on the quest for an all natural deodorant? Believe me, it can be hard to find one! I had trouble finding one that worked for me, so I decided to just make my own. I have loved using it, and can’t wait to share this simple DIY all natural detox deodorant recipe with you today!
After my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, I started out on a quest to use all natural products in my beauty routine. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that chemicals are not good for your body, so I started eliminating my use of them as much as possible. I did some research on the use of aluminum in antiperspirants since I had heard it was linked to breast cancer and other diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Although there is no proven link between breast cancer and antiperspirants, I still decided to make the switch to an aluminum free deodorant. After discovering that perspiration not only keeps your body cool, but also eliminates wastes from your body, I decided I wanted to keep my body functioning naturally. I don’t want to use anything that keeps my body from releasing unhealthy toxins. How about you?
This was not an easy change to make. There are many deodorants on the market labeled as all natural, but they are not aluminum free. You must read the ingredients carefully. Also, many aluminum free deodorants use zinc, which can cause skin irritation. My underarms broke out with a rash when I tried these deodorants, so my options were very limited indeed. After doing some more research, I decided to try making my own deodorant. I am so glad I decided to give this a try!
This recipe is not for your typical deodorant. It forms a paste that you must apply with your fingers. Some people don’t like doing this, but it really doesn’t bother me. It’s a small sacrifice to pay for the peace of mind I get that I’m not putting harmful chemicals on my body. This deodorant is also different because it isn’t clear. Don’t worry, the color isn’t noticeable once applied to the skin, and I’ve had no stains on my clothing since using it.
Here are the ingredients you will need for this awesome, detoxifying deodorant:
- 5 Tablespoons of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
- 4 Tablespoons of All Natural Baking Soda
- 3 Tablespoons of Organic Cornstarch
- 2 Tablespoons of Bentonite Clay
- 3 Drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
- 3 Drops of Lemon Essential Oil
The recipe uses all natural ingredients to provide protection from body odor. Why these ingredients? The coconut oil, tea tree oil and lemon oil help prevent odor, cornstarch helps absorb perspiration, and bentonite clay absorbs toxins from your body and aids in absorbing perspiration.
Instructions:
It is best for your coconut oil to be in liquid form before mixing with the rest of the ingredients. To make this simple deodorant for your body, all you have to do is mix all the above ingredients together and pour into your desired container. (Be sure not to use metal utensils/bowls since the bentonite clay can pull metal into the clay.) Once the coconut oil cools, you will be left with a paste. To use, just use your fingers to rub a small amount of the paste onto your armpits as needed.
Keep in mind that this is simply a deodorant and not an antiperspirant. Although the cornstarch and clay will provide protection from moisture, depending on how much you perspire you may still experience some wetness.
I hope you’ll give this DIY Detox Deodorant a try. You’ll be glad you did! It’s easy, effective, and affordable. Most importantly, it’s a healthy way to eliminate body odor.
