If you are in the search for a natural DIY healthy hair mask recipe, you can find many of them online. In my quest to use more natural products in my skin care and hair care routines, I’ve done the search myself and tried many of them with no luck. Most of the hair mask recipes use olive or coconut oils, which have the tendency to leave my hair greasy. I found myself in the shower washing my hair several times to get the oil out. The over shampooing made my hair dry, which defeats the purpose of a hair mask! Lucky for you, I’ve done the work for you. I’ve found a great hair oil mask that will hydrate your hair without weighing it down. Want to check it out? Great! It is super easy to make, because there are only two ingredients.
What do you know about rosemary? It’s good on potatoes, and I make a wonderful rosemary wheat pizza crust, but we’re not talking about kitchens here. Did you know that rosemary has been used for centuries for hair care? Yes, rosemary has been known to be beneficial to the hair and scalp. According to Valerie Worwood in her book, “The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy,” rosemary stimulates cell growth and dilates blood vessels, which stimulates the hair follicles into producing hair growth. It also has a smell that most people find pleasing. I personally LOVE the smell of rosemary, so it was natural for me to choose this essential oil for my hair oil mask!
Rosemary essential oil must be used with a carrier oil, so I had to search to find the right oil for me. Like I stated earlier, coconut and olive oils leave my hair greasy. I decided to try grapeseed oil. Nope, it was even worse. So when I ran across a bottle of apricot oil recently, I decided to give it a try. Bingo, it worked! Apricot oil is rich in essential fatty acids, and has excellent restorative properties that promote soft, radiant hair (Now Solutions). It is great for dry hair, and doesn’t leave my hair with a greasy film. Perfect!
Now that you know the two ingredients, here’s the recipe.
Healthy Hair Mask Recipe ingredients:
- 1 oz. Apricot Oil
- 25 Drops of Rosemary Essential Oil
I simply mix the oils together and store it in a bottle. When I’m ready to use it, I shake it up to make sure the oils are evenly mixed, then apply it to dry hair. I can’t tell you the exact amount to use, because it depends on your hair length and thickness. Massage the oil into your scalp and then pull it through your hair strands. I leave the mask on for about 15 minutes, then shampoo and condition my hair as usual. Your hair will be super soft and smooth afterwards. You can also use this mask as a hair oil by applying a few drops to wet hair before blow drying to maintain hair moisture and prevent the frizzies. That’s why I usually make my hair mask by the bottle and keep it on hand!
I hope you like this DIY healthy hair mask recipe. If you give it a try, be sure to let me know your thoughts!
