A DIY Sign for Dog Lovers

Today I thought I’d share a super cute project with you that I made recently.  This adorable DIY Sign for Dog Lovers was made for a particular dog lover in my family…my dad.  Today is his birthday, and I made this special gift for him because I knew he would appreciate it!

Dog is My Doorbell DIY SignI started out by designing and cutting the vinyl letters with my trusty Cricut Mini machine.  I then placed the letters onto a wood block I had purchased and painted white.

Dog Is My Doorbell SignNext I painted the front of the sign with some red metallic paint I had on hand.  I brushed the paint on lightly to create a brush stroked look.

Sign Dog Is My DoorbellI decided to use some similar matte red paint to create interest and really make this piece stand out.  I simply dabbed the 2nd red color paint in various places on the sign as seen in the picture below.

DIY Dog Doorbell SignI used Craft Smart Premium Metallic Paint in Festive Red, and Apple Barrel Paint in Flag Red for this project.

DIY Dog SignBefore the paint was dry, I pulled up the vinyl letters to reveal the white surface underneath.

Dog Doorbell DIY SignI love the result!  This DIY Sign for Dog Lovers is perfect if you ask me!  There were a couple of small places where the paint smeared, but I think it just adds character, don’t you?

DIY Dog Is My Doorbell SignI really like the way you can see the brush strokes on this sign.  Also, the use of two different shades of red gives this piece a textured look.

DIY My Dog Is My Doorbell SignI can’t wait to give my dad this unique gift I made for him for his birthday.  Don’t you just love handmade gifts?  I know I do!

Would you like to see my dad’s doorbell?  You’re in luck, because today I’ll introduce you to Possum.  Believe me, he’s an awesome doorbell!

PossumThank you so much for stopping by today to see this cute DIY Sign for Dog Lovers.  Now it’s time to get to work making one of these for the dog lover in your family!

What a great idea, but I think only deaf visitors will need a sign with the racket our two make.
