Craving some sweet this holiday season? Want something playful on your front door for Christmas this year? Then this simple peppermint holiday wreath could be exactly what you’re looking for!
I usually hang a traditional wreath on my front door every year at Christmas time, but this year I decided I wanted something a little less serious and a lot more playful. As much as I love Christmas, it can sometimes be a struggle for me, so I wanted a wreath that would put a smile on my face. This peppermint holiday wreath does just that. Peppermint reminds me of being a child and calls me back to a time when Christmas was an exciting season filled with Santa, presents, Christmas plays and big family functions. A lot has changed over the years since I was a child, but one thing remains…I still love peppermint!
Here is what I used to make this fun holiday wreath:
- 8 pieces each of white and red felt
- Styrofoam wreath form
- 5 Christmas peppermint floral picks
Can you believe that’s all I used? I was super excited about making this wreath since I didn’t have to use a glue gun. Yay! Maybe I’ll make it through the Christmas season without a hot glue burn this year. Now, let’s get started on this wreath!
I started out by cutting each piece of felt into 4 pieces by folding it in half, cutting, then folding in half again and cutting.
Now position a piece of felt on top of the wreath form. Use the scissors to push the felt down into the styrofoam.
After you pull out the scissors the felt will be securely tucked into the wreath form. It’s like magic! So much better than hot glue!
Work your way around the wreath using the same technique, alternating the red and white pieces of felt.
Once you’ve made a ring around the wreath, then add another row of felt pieces on the outside ring of the wreath form.
Once both layers are completed the and wreath form is covered, arrange the floral picks by sticking them into the styrofoam, spacing them evenly throughout the wreath.
Oh my goodness, isn’t that peppermint holiday wreath a beauty? It’s hard to believe that it cost me less than $6 to make!
I purchased the beautiful peppermint floral picks from Hobby Lobby. They were the perfect addition to this wreath, wouldn’t you agree?
I will be honest and tell you that this wreath has been my favorite holiday project this year. Not only was it simple to make and reminds me of childhood, but it just makes me smile. What is your favorite holiday craft project that you’ve done so far this year?
