Learn how to make a gift bag from wrapping paper in just 5 simple steps at Sparkles of Sunshine today.

‘Tis the season of giving, which means we’re not only buying gifts, but wrapping them, too. Have you ever been elbow deep in gift wrapping to discover you’re just one gift bag short of finishing up your task? It’s definitely happened to me, and it’s not a good feeling to almost be done with your gift wrapping.

Now that I know how to make a gift bag from wrapping paper, that will never happen again. There’s no need to run to the store to purchase another gift bag when you can make one instead. It’s easy to make a gift bag from wrapping paper in just 5 simple steps. Let me show you how!

Here are the materials I used to make a gift bag:

  • Decorative wrapping paper
  • Scotch® Gift Wrap Tape 3 Pack Caddie
  • Scotch™ Multi-Purpose Scissor 8”

I found my supplies made by Scotch® at my local Walmart in the stationary section. The tape was super easy to find thanks to the special Rollback price…what a great deal! You can stock up on Scotch® Brand wrapping products early and save with a 50% bonus and Rollback, too. There’s even a cute gift tag you can use on the packaging!

OK, let’s get started. It only takes 5 easy steps to make this gift bag from wrapping paper, so it’s going to go quick!

Step 1: Use the scissors to cut a piece of wrapping paper rectangular in size. Make sure the length is at least twice as long as the width. You can always trim the length later if you wish.

Step 2: Fold the edges of the wrapping paper toward the center so that they overlap slightly. Tape the seam together for the entire length of the paper. Scotch® Gift Wrap Tape is perfect to use for this because it secures the paper seam effortlessly. Plus it’s tear resistant so you can be confident there will be no peeking!

Step 3: Fold the bottom of the wrapping paper up to create the bottom of the gift bag. The depth of the bottom fold should be about 1/2 of the width of the paper. For example, if your wrapping paper is 16 inches wide, you will create a fold 8 inches from the bottom.

Step 4: Fold the paper again, this time creating a diamond shape by separating the paper and pressing the corners town. Secure with the gift wrap tape.

Step 5: Fold the top and bottom pointed ends inside so that they slightly overlap. Secure with tape. That’s it!

All you have to do now is decide what you’re going to fill the gift bag with and who you’re going to give it to. I’m thinking of making a set of these to fill up with treats and hand out to residents at the local nursing home I regularly visit. I did this recently with a group of friends and it was so much fun watching the faces of the residents light up when we gave them a small gift! Now is the perfect time of year to give back to others.

Scotch® Brand is giving back this season, too. They are going to donate $200,000 to Fisher House this holiday season. The Fisher House program provides homes for the families of military members to stay while their loved ones are receiving medical care. With a veteran husband, it’s easy for me to support this worthwhile charity. You can find out more info and donate money to Fisher House here.

Sharon, I’m so sorry this project didn’t work for you. The wrapping paper I used was pretty thick, so perhaps the wrapping paper you used was thin and unable to hold the gift. I was able to put two books in my bag with no issues. Again, I’m sorry the project didn’t turn out for you.
