Will you be attending a New Year’s Party this year? I’ve never liked going out for New Year’s, so I’ll be home watching movies and watching the ball drop from the comfort of my own home. I must say there’s no one I’d rather spend New Year’s with than my wonderful husband, Errik. But if you’re headed out for New Year’s this year, I’ve got an easy hostess gift project for you today. Get ready for the Upcycled New Year’s Wine Bottle Gift Bag! I even have free printable gift tags for you today! We’ll just say it’s my New Year’s gift to you. This adorable Upcycled Wine Bottle Gift Bag would make a great gift for friends or neighbors, too. If they aren’t a wine drinker it’s OK. My bag is actually filled with a bottle of Welch’s Sparkling Red Grape Juice, so even the underage can enjoy this gift.
For this simple project you will need a pair of old pants and trimmings of your choice. When picking out your pants, make sure the legs are not too wide. I had a beautiful pair of pants I originally wanted to use for this project, but the legs were way too wide for a wine bottle. So instead I picked up these young girl’s pants at Goodwill for only $2.59. Two handmade wine bottle gift bags for that price is a steal! Lucky for me, I already had the trim on hand. To keep your costs down, check out the fabric remnant section at your local craft store. They often have short pieces of ribbons and trimmings at a very reasonable price that would be perfect for this project. You will also need a glue gun/glue sticks and sewing machine for this project.
Prepare to be amazed and how easy it is to make this project! I chose the height of my wine bag by placing the bottle of sparkling grape juice inside it first. My bag is 14 inches long, but for larger or irregular sized bottles, you may need to make it shorter or longer. I then cut the pant leg straight across.
Turn the pant leg inside out and use your sewing machine to sew across the end of the pant leg that you cut. This will be the base of the gift bag. The other end of the pant leg is already hemmed, so that makes this project super easy! Now comes the fun part…
I had this pretty, sparkly sequin trim on hand, which is perfect for a New Year’s gift!
I cut the trim to fit my bag and used the hot glue gun to attach the trim to the bag. Have fun designing your bag with your trim. You can make it simple, elegant, playful, it’s your choice!
Every gift needs a gift tag, so I designed this gift tag myself. I’m so happy to share this FREE PRINTABLE with you today! I printed it out on a piece of card stock, punched a hole in the top, and strung it onto a piece of ribbon before tying a bow at the top to seal the bag.
To use these FREE PRINTABLE gift tags, just right click on the image above and save to your computer. Open the image and print for your own personal use. This gift tag is a perfect addition to this Upcycled New Year’s Wine Bottle Gift Bag.
This is such a cute, but simple gift idea. It’s a great way to take a quickly purchased item from the store, and turn it into a handmade gift with this easy DIY upcycled gift bag.
Remember you don’t have to save this project for New Year’s. It would also be a great gift for birthdays, anniversaries, and other holidays and special occasions. You can even make this Upcycled Gift Bag in different sizes, too, and use it for other gift items. If you decide to make one of these, I’d love for you to share it with me!
You still have two days left until New Year’s, so there’s still plenty of time to make this simple project. It literally takes minutes, so grab a pair of pants and get started!
