I hope you don’t mind me sharing a little secret with you today. It even comes along with a set of free printables. Do I have your attention yet? Good!
Some of you may already know that one of my favorite pastimes is reading. Remember I was once an English teacher??? I truly love to read, and wish I had more time to knock titles off of my reading list. Seriously, folks…I need more hours in a day. My bookshelves are lined with books I can’t wait to dig into, not to mention the list of titles I have on my list of books to hunt down. My bookshelves, combined with the books I’ve already loaded on my Kindle, make up my personal library in my home. Oh, to have the time to read at leisure like I’d like to! Anybody out there sympathize with me? I knew I wasn’t alone!
I promised you a little secret, so here goes. Not only do I love to read, but I adore history. While others may like the latest modern fiction, historical fiction is definitely my genre of choice when it comes to books. My guilty pleasure? I absolutely LOVE reading books about the past Kings and Queens. There is something fascinating about royalty. Love, hate, revenge, power, betrayal, these books are packed with excitement, especially when you know these story lines are actually true. Whether it’s the War of the Roses or the wives of King Henry VIII, I find myself reading my novel half the time, then searching online the other half to verify the facts. It takes me a little longer to get through these books because of my online historical research, but it’s worth it to me.
As I was finishing up with my latest read (this time about Eleanor of Aquitaine), I decided it would be fun to create a set of printables based on the quotes of Kings and Queens. This was such a fun project, and today I’m sharing it with you. Ready to see what some of the famous Kings and Queens had to say?
Here’s what the Queens have to say…
My favorite Queen quote has to be from Mary Queen of Scots. I imagine I would be a big hot mess if I were about to be beheaded, but she kept her cool and was able to see the good in her predicament. Our time on earth is so short compared to eternity, and I love the reminder that death on earth is really the start of a new eternal life.
Let’s see what the Kings have to say…
My favorite King quote? Hmmm….is it OK if I say King George III? I mean, no one likes to be disagreed with, right??? Just kidding, I would say my favorite is from King Henry IV. Although it isn’t always pleasant, it is in our trials that we become stronger.
