Essential Oils to Support Your Immune System

Which essential oils do you need in your stash for cold and flu season this year? Find out which essential oils to support your immune system before the season starts.

It happens every year. Fall arrives and brings cooler temperatures along with it. Our bodies get less sunshine and less fresh air as we begin spending more and more time indoors. Eventually somebody gets a cold, germs start spreading around you and then you realize that it’s here…cold and flu season.

Don’t give in to despair because there is still hope that you could escape cold and flu season unscathed this year. While proper diet and exercise are powerful weapons to ward off colds, I’m focusing on essential oils today. This list of powerful essential oils to support your immune system can get you prepared before the season even starts.

Essential Oils to Support Your Immune System

Lemon Oil

Lemon oil’s detoxifying properties make it an excellent choice. Not only can you add a drop of lemon oil to your tea to help detoxify your body of toxins each day, but you can also use lemon oil to make a powerful cleaner to eliminate germs from your home. Combine 10-15 drops of lemon oil with water to a spray bottle and you have an excellent cleaner to wipe germs off cabinets, countertops and tables.

Purification Oil

Purification oil is a blend of oils designs to purify the air of impurities. The combination of citronella, lemongrass, lavandin, rosemary, tea tree and myrtle oils will freshen the air indoors, eliminate odors and improve the air quality. Just add 5-6 drops to your diffuser and let this powerful oil do the work.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil promotes a restful night’s sleep which gives your body a chance to heal and restore itself overnight. Rubbing a few drops of lavender on your feet at night or adding a few drops to your diffuser at night will produce a calming effect and help your body get the rest it needs.

Thieves Oil

Thieves oil is an essential oil blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary oils. It was inspired by the legend of four 15th century French thieves who formulated a combination of botanicals to be used while robbing the dead. This blend of oils was designed to help support the body’s immune system. Add a few drops of Thieves oil to a capsule and swallow with water or rub a few drops on the bottoms of feet before bed to support a healthy immune system.

Oregano Oil

Oregano oil is packed with the naturally occurring constituent carvacrol and can support a healthy lifestyle when taken as a dietery supplement. Dilute one drop of oregano oil with a carrier oil in a capsule and take one daily.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil supports healthy intestinal function and can ease intestinal discomfort. Try adding a drop of peppermint oil to a glass of water and drink before meals to aid in proper digestion. You can also rub a drop of oil over your stomach to calm indigestion. Feeling nauseous? Rub a couple of drops behind the ears and inhale the calming scent of peppermint.

Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil supports the respiratory system by acting as an expectorant. Add a few drops to your diffuser at night so you can breathe easier while you sleep. You can also make your own vapor rub by mixing eucalyptus oil and coconut oil and rubbing it on your chest before bed.

Support your immune system this cold and flu season with essential oils, proper diet and exercise.
