Today I’m going to share with you how I made this festive holiday garland for my living room this year. Well, actually, I made two. I just couldn’t resist! These garlands were very easy to make and I love the way they add sparkle to my living room.
I love Christmas music, and have an embarrassing large collection of it. My favorites are my Elvis Presley, Sidewalk Prophets and David Phelps albums. They are so awesome! Well, that’s what inspired my holiday garlands. I chose two words from a couple of my favorite Christmas hymns, purchased the wood letters and some musical/glittery scrapbook paper from my local craft store, and got busy working on this awesome project!
I started out by tracing the letters onto the scrapbook paper and cutting them out. I cut out the glittery scrapbook paper to fit just the tops of my letters to create kind of a snow-capped effect.
I used Mod Podge to adhere the scrapbook paper onto the wood letters. I used Glitter Modge Podge for my final layer, and I love the way it added extra bits of sparkle to these letters. If you don’t know how to decoupage, check out my previous post with instructions here.
I decided to add my letters to a strand of silver beaded garland since it matched so well. I did this by cutting small pieces of wired tinsel garland, forming the pieces into loops and stapling them to the back of the letters.
I then pulled the beaded garland strand through the loops and twisted them to secure the letters to the strand. I can be pretty technical about my work, so I did count the beaded between the letters to make sure they were evenly spaced out.
I love the end result of this project! I decided to hang one along my staircase, and one above my front window in my living room. It love that they add extra holiday spirit to my space!
Don’t these letters look so sparkly cute?
I just love the sheet music scrapbook paper. The silver foil really stands out against the black!
The black is also a great contrast to the white blinds and curtains at my window.
I hope you like my Holiday Lettered Garland as much as I do! These were so simple to make, and I love that they add extra sparkle to my home this holiday season. Now that my decorating is finally done, I can finally relax and enjoy it all before Christmas gets here. Christmas Eve is only two weeks away! But don’t worry, you still have time to make one of these for yourself. One afternoon is all you need!
