I’m back today with another simple decor project that I completed recently for my living room. This DIY Decorative Globe made the perfect addition to the side table in my living room, and you are not going to believe how easy it was to make!I got the idea to do this project last summer, but it took me a while to hunt down a globe to use. Although mini globes seem to be everywhere these days, anytime I saw a large one like I wanted in a store they were way too expensive. I didn’t want to pay $50 at TJMaxx for one this size, so I waited. And waited. Then one weekend while thrift store shopping with my mom I found this beauty for a mere $8. Bingo! I snapped it up and it’s been sitting around my home all this time, just waiting for its makeover. I finally got around to it last week, and I must admit it was one of the quickest projects ever. I don’t know why I waited so long to get it done, but I’m simply in love with it now! Let me share how I made this easy globe update.
Here is what I used for this project:
- Globe
- Cricut Mini Machine
- Cricut White Adhesive Vinyl
I pulled out my Cricut Mini and got busy designing my lettering. I wanted to use the Bible verse John 3:16 for my globe, but you can choose any verse or quote that you wish. I decided to use different fonts and sizes to give the appearance of graffiti. Once I was done designing the letters, I cut them out onto white adhesive vinyl using my Cricut Mini. Would you believe that the hard part is over? Yes, it’s all downhill from here!
All I had to do was peel and stick the lettering to my globe. Oh, I forgot that fingernails are required for this project. Oops!
I placed my lettering on my globe so that it formed lines of text that could be easily read without having to spin the globe around.
Be sure to press the vinyl down so that sticks securely to the globe.
That’s it! Originally I had planned on painting the lettering onto the globe, but this globe has countries on it that no longer exist. I decided I should keep it close to its original state, and I can always remove the vinyl if I decide to in the future. Besides, using this method was so much easier than painting. I like easy projects, don’t you?
Not only does this DIY Decorative Globe serve a decorative purpose, but it serves a spiritual purpose as well. Now every day when I pass this globe I’m reminded of God’s perfect love for me. That’s worth much more than the $8 I spent for this globe!
I hope you enjoyed this easy update. Stay tuned to see more projects from my recent living room transformation. I am loving the new look! Be sure to check out my Easy Storage Bin Makeover if you missed it. It’s another simple project!
Is that my bday present?? Love it!!
Sorry, but I don’t think I could let them one go. I’ll be on the lookout for another one, though! 🙂 Happy Birthday, I love you, sis!
This is adorable. I have a vintage globe that I am too scared to do anything too lol. BUT, can I borrow your fingernails for my next cricut vinyl project? I have none haha. I am glad my cricut came with a kit that has all sorts of spatulas in it or I would be constantly messing things up!
Shared! Keep up the fun projects for us!
Jess
Hey, I have a set of those tools, too, but I really haven’t used them yet. I guess it’s because I have good fingernails…Haha! 🙂
Wow, this is GORGEOUS. I’ve seen similar ones at Anthropologie for way too much money, and I think yours is even prettier! Thanks for sharing this!
That is the greatest compliment! Thank you so much! 🙂
