Want to decorate your Christmas tree in style this year? Today’s post will help you. I’m sharing the pattern with you today so you can make these crocheted Christmas ball ornaments, too!
When a friend cleaned out her craft stash and gave me a bunch of clear glass Christmas ball ornaments this past summer, I knew I’d be able to put them to good use. They sat in my attic until inspiration hit me recently. I grabbed my leftover yarn balls and my crochet needle and got busy. Today I’m sharing the easy pattern for these crocheted Christmas ball ornaments. You have plenty of time to get these made before you put the tree up this year!
For this pattern you will need the following:
- Size G Hook
- Worsted Weighted Yarn in 4 coordinating colors
- 3 inch Christmas ball ornaments (clear or colored will work)
You will start out by making the two sides.
Make 2:
Magic loop, ch2, sc 11 into loop, join with a sl st into top of ch2 at the beginning of the round. Pull loop tight and fasten off yarn.
Join another color with a slip stitch.
Ch3. dc into same space as ch3, dc2 into each space until the end of the round, joining with a slip stitch into top of ch3 at the beginning of the round. (24 stitches) Fasten off and join another color in between any of the dc2 sets.
Ch3. dc2 into same space as ch3. *Skip next 2 stitches, then dc3 into next space, repeating from * to end, joining with a slip stitch into top of ch3 at the beginning of the round. (36 stitches) Fasten off and join another color into between any of the dc3 sets.
Ch3. dc2 into same space as ch3, *skip next 3 stitches, dc3 into next space. Repeat from * to end, joining with a slip stitch into the top of the ch3 at the beginning of the round. Fasten off and weave in ends. (36 stitches)
(This pattern fits a 3 inch Christmas ball ornament. If you have larger balls, adjust the pattern by adding additional rounds until you get the size you need.)
Slip both pieces onto your Christmas ball with right sides facing out. Sew together, leaving a gap for the hanging loop. Fasten off and weave in ends.
I know these are going to be my favorite Christmas ornaments this year. I love colorful ornaments, and these granny square inspired crocheted Christmas ball ornaments definitely fit the bill. I have a very colorful Christmas tree, so these ornaments will fit in just fine. I have plenty of these Christmas balls left in my craft supply, so I’m sure I’ll be making more of these in the very near future.
Print out the pattern below and get to work on these crocheted Christmas ball ornaments today. I made these while watching reruns on TV one afternoon. May I suggest a Law and Order marathon?? Have fun!

Hi Heidi,
I did notice they are using a similar pattern but not exact one to this. They are charging $40 in my area for the class! Guess I should try hosting my own! 🙂
