How To Completely Change a Pillow Cover in Minutes

Do you have your room decorated for fall yet?  If not, I have a super easy project you can complete in minutes.  This will be the easiest pillow cover project yet!Learn how easy it is to change a pillow cover in just minutes with a fabric marker at Sparkles of Sunshine.

All you need for this project is a plain pillow cover, carbon paper, fabric marker, and pencil for this project.  I used a pre-made burlap zippered pillow cover I found at Michael’s by Tulip.  I love that these come in several different sizes and materials!  You can make and use your own cover if you’d like, of course. Start by putting a piece of cardboard inside the pillow cover first, to protect the back layer from any marker stains.

Now it’s time to design what you’d like to have written on your pillow.  I decided to go with “Give Thanks” for the Thanksgiving holiday season.  You could also use other sayings like “Be Grateful”, “Blessings”, or “Trick or Treat”, whatever you prefer. I used Microsoft Word to design and print it out, then decided where I wanted it to go by placing the words over the pillow cover.

Now, place carbon paper underneath and use a pencil to trace around each letter.

See how the letters are now transferred onto the pillow cover?

Now, use your fabric marker to fill in the letters.

Let it dry, then pop your pillow form into your amazing new pillow cover.

What do you think?  Wasn’t that super simple?   Decorating your home doesn’t always have to be difficult, you know!

I really like my new pillow cover, and the burlap is perfect for fall.  You don’t have to use burlap; fabric markers will work on any type of fabric.  If you don’t have money for a fancy pillow cover, just stitch up a simple one like my envelope pillow cover using plain fabric, and use fabric markers to dress it up.

You can make this simple pillow cover for any holiday.  I’ve been contemplating writing something on the back so I can flip this pillow around and use it for another holiday.  Twice the use…sounds like a good idea to me!  Do you have any cool pillow cover ideas?  If so, I’d love to hear about them.  Send me a line!
