There’s no need to buy plastic containers to store your home baked gifts in when you can repurpose items you’d normally trash. Can you believe these upcycled treat tins are actually old potato chip and nut canisters???
That’s right! Instead of purchasing something to give my candies and cookies away in this year I decided to make my own. You won’t recognize their original purpose after adding festive scrapbook paper, ribbon and embellishments. It’s a great way to give a new purpose to something old, which is one of my favorite things to do.
Materials needed to make Upcycled Treat Tins:
- Empty potato chip or nut canisters
- glitter scrapbook paper in various colors
- glue gun and glue sticks
- coordinating holiday themed ribbon
- 3D sticker embellishments
- scissors and/or paper trimmer
Project instructions:
Start by cleaning out the inside of the canisters by wiping with a damp paper towel. Cut two pieces of scrapbook paper so they will wrap around the container with a slight overlap.
Attach one piece of scrapbook paper to the canister with hot glue.
Layer the other piece of scrapbook paper to the canister and secure with hot glue.
Cut a piece of ribbon and attach it to the container to hide the seam where the scrapbook papers meet. Secure with hot glue.
The last step is to add the 3D sticker embellishment for the finishing touch.
Well, the official last step is to add your holiday treats to your new upcycled treat tins. Your family, friends and neighbors are going to love their hand delivered goodies. Maybe they’ll enjoy your baking just as much as they will appreciate the effort you put into making these upcycled treat tins look beautiful for the holidays.
