With the summer heat already out in full force, we’re all heading outdoors. With days spent at the beach, by the pool, at the campground and other places outside, we’re constantly battling all that comes along with it. Sunburn, outdoor pests, heat exhaustion…our time spent outdoors is not always easy on our bodies. Today I’m sharing a list of essential oils for summer that will help you enjoy the outdoors in peace. Using these essential oils for summer will help you have fun and relax while enjoying the beautiful outdoors.
Purification Oil
If you’re going to be outside, this oil is a definite must. This blend of Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Myrtle, and Tea Tree will repel insects so you can enjoy the outdoors in peace. Make your own bug spray by adding 10 drops of Purification to a small water bottle or simply dab on your feet and wrists to keep bugs, spiders and other crawlies away.
Purification is also the perfect oil to get rid of unpleasant odors like soured laundry or stinky pool towels. Add a couple of drops to the wash and let the oil work its magic!
Peppermint Oil
This oil is a refreshing oil to use during yard work, gardening, camping, or anytime you’re working hard outside and need to cool off! You can easily make a cooling spray by added 15 drops of Peppermint oil to 4 ounces of water in a spray bottle. Mist skin anytime you need to cool off, taking care to avoid the eyes. Another option is to dab a few drops of Peppermint oil on a cotton ball and swipe it across the forehead and back of the neck to cool off.
Lavender Oil
If you spent too much time in the summer sun and need some sunburn relief, it’s time to bring out the Lavender oil. Add 10 drops of Lavender oil to a small spray bottle of water and spray on skin to soothe sunburn discomfort. You can also make your own sunburn relief gel by mixing 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 3 ounces of aloe vera gel and 10 drops of Lavender oil and gently rub on skin for cooling relief.
Lavender oil is also known for supporting a calm, relaxing atmosphere. Rub a few drops of Lavender oil on the bottoms of your feet to promote restful sleep at the end of a busy, summer day.
Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia)
This powerful oil is known for promoting healthy feet and nails, so use this oil to keep your feet flip flop ready all summer long. Apply a drop of Tea Tree oil to your toenails each day to promote healthy toenails. Combat stinky feet at the end of a long day with a foot spray. Add 10 drops of Tea Tree oil to a small spray bottle of water and mist on the bottoms of feet.
Tea tree oil is perfect for soothing blisters, scrapes, insect stings and bug bites that come along with time spent outdoors. Use a cotton ball to dab Tea Tree oil on skin to soothe discomfort.
Lemon Oil
If you’re going camping, be sure to bring the Lemon oil along. You can use Lemon oil to remove gum, oil, tree sap or other sticky residues from surfaces. It works great as a surface cleaner and degreaser for all the messes that come along with summer and time spent outdoors, too.
Lemon oil also soothes foot irritation from corns, calluses, and bunions. Apply it to feet after a long hike or busy day of walking along the beach. Note: Since Lemon oil is photosenstive, it’s recommended not to put it on skin before heading outdoors, so I would only apply this oil on skin at night.
Frankincense Oil
All the time spent in the sun can make your skin appear tired and dry. Add a drop of Frankincense oil to your facial moisturizer to give skin an extra boost of moisture and renew that summer glow.
Enjoy using these essential oils for summer and see how Lemon, Frankincense, Tea Tree, Peppermint, Purification and Lavender oils can support a healthy lifestyle. Tell me, which oils would you add to this list?
