When I updated my living room recently, I rearranged my furniture. Although I liked the arrangement much better, it didn’t leave room for my oval coffee table. I loved my coffee table fiercely since it was one of my first makeover projects, but I’d always wanted a round coffee table after all. Since I love a bargain, I started searching Craigslist for a round coffee table. I finally scored and found one the perfect size I needed for my living room, and I can’t wait to show you how I updated it.
When I first saw this coffee table, I knew it would need some work. There were scruffs and scratches, not to mention the legs had been broken off of it. The college kids I bought it from were not kind to this table, but I knew it deserved a better life. I decided to give it an update, rustic style!
The base of this coffee table just had to go. This table was wobbly without the legs, and I wanted my coffee table to be sturdy. I had purchased a coffee table base at a junk store previously (hey, it was $3 and you never know when you’ll need one), so we pulled it out of my closet and decided it would be a great match for my table top.
I must say that I was just the designer for this project. My hubby did all the work, so this project was the easiest for me yet! First he gave the base a fresh coat of white paint. Next, he added a couple of L-brackets to the middle of the base so he could attach it to the wood top with screws.
He sanded the top of the table down to smooth it out and get rid of the scratches. We considered using a router to round out the edge since there were some nicks, but I decided to keep it natural. I love the rustic look of wood, and minor imperfections adds to its beauty if you ask me.
He added a protective coat of sealer on top, and then my coffee table was finally ready for its new home.
I love everything about this coffee table now. The beautiful white legs, the natural wood top, the round shape, it’s a perfect fit for our living room space. I know I could have purchased one at the store, but it’s so much more fun finding a deal on Craigslist and creating what you want. The grand total for this coffee table was a mere $38 including all supplies. Not bad, huh?
I’m so happy I finally have my round, rustic coffee table. This was the last project for my updated living room, so stop by later this week to see the big reveal. So far I’ve only shown you bits and pieces of the update, but soon you’ll be able to see the whole room. I’m so excited it’s finally done so I can sit back and enjoy it. OK, I’ve got to go now and prop my feet up on my new coffee table!
Very cool makeover. I like the natural finish, and the junk store coffee table base you found works perfectly! Very unique!
Thanks so much! I love the natural finish, too. It feels great to have a one-of-a-kind table of my own!
