Cowboy Boot Planter

Looking for a quick project to put a little spring in your step this season? Here’s a fun, unique way to bring the outside in and add some color to your home decor. I promise you this cowboy boot planter is a simple and quick project. You’ll be able to finish it in less time than it takes to do the Boot Scootin’ Boogie!

Add a little spring to your step by transforming an old boot into a colorful cowboy boot planter.

I actually came up with this idea after seeing a painting of a cowboy boot with a bouquet of flowers inside it. It sparked the idea of making my own cowboy boot planter, so I shared my thoughts with a friend of mine. She loved the idea, too, and remarked that she even had an old pair of cowboy boots at home we could use for the project. I’m so thankful she saved me the trip to Goodwill, because my only investment in this fun project was the cost of the flowers. I love a good project, but a good cheap project is even better!

I started out with this cowboy boot and an old pillowcase. I stuffed the pillowcase in the boot to fill in the foot space.

Depending on the height of your plant pot, you may need to stuff more/less fabric in the boot so it sits at the right height. The pot I had on hand was just the right size for my boot after stuffing one pillowcase in the boot.

With my boot properly stuffed, I headed outside to put my plant in the pot.

Once the flowers were planted, all I had to do was stuff the pot into the boot. It doesn’t get much simpler than that!

The lady who previously owned these boots had worn them down a bit during her square-dancing days. Seriously, I’m not making this up…my friend’s mother-in-law really did square-dance in these boots!

Once I noticed the boot wanted to sway to one side and topple over, I easily fixed the problem by sticking a push pin into the bottom of the boot. This evened things out so the boot could sit evenly on the tabletop.

All that was left was to find a home for my new flowers. I decided to place my new cowboy boot planter on my office desk so I can enjoy it every day while I’m working. The beautiful yellow flowers remind of sunshine, after all.

I already enjoy admiring my new planter, but I can’t wait until my flowers grow a little more. They are starting to trail a little bit, but I know this will be lovely once the stems grow longer and the flowers spill over the sides of the boot. Keep this is mind when picking your plant/flowers and choose something that trails. I chose Calibrachoa Superbells for my cowboy boot planter. What flowers will you choose?

This turned out great. You could use different boots for different types of folks. Hiking, spiked heels, etc. Charlotte
