Dollar Store Leaf Pillow Cover

Add some pizzazz to a plain pillow cover for just $1 and some glue with a trip to the dollar store. Christie at Sparkles of Sunshine shows you how easy it is! Did you see my post last week on the DIY envelope pillow covers that are so easy to make?   I made some pillow covers recently to bring my living room into the fall season.  I love the new look, but something was missing…..

Plain Pillow Cover on CouchThis cream colored pillow just needs something extra.  What do you think?

Never fear!  It’s nothing a trip to The Dollar Tree can’t solve!  I found this cute felt fall leaf decoration there, and decided it’s new home would be on this pillow cover.  It needs a little color in it’s life!  All you need for this simple project is a pillow cover, felt decoration and fabric glue. This is going to be so easy you’ll be amazed!

Leaf Pillow Cover SuppliesStart out by putting a piece of cardboard in the pillow cover to protect the second layer of fabric.  I used Aleene’s Super Fabric Adhesive for this project. It works well, but dries quickly, so if you use it be sure to work fast!  Apply fabric glue around the edges of the leaf first, then fill in the larger areas with glue.   Make sure it’s covered all over for proper adhesion on the fabric.

Fabric Glue on LeafPlace the leaf on the pillow cover and press firmly.  I laid a large book over mine to help it set.  The fabric glue I used was set in 2 hours, but other glues are usually set in 24 hours.  That’s why I chose Aleene’s Fabric Adhesive-I couldn’t wait so long to see how cool this pillow was going to be!

Leaf Glued to Pillow CoverAfter the glue is dry, you can pop in your pillow insert and be amazed at your new pillow’s beauty!

Leaf Pillow CompletedWasn’t that a simple project to make?  And what a big change for $1 and some glue!  I think this pillow adds just the pop of color my room needed!

Pillows on SofaWhat do you think of this simple project?  I bet you are headed to your nearest dollar store now, aren’t you?  I hope you like this pillow as much as I do and will give it a try.  Maybe you have another idea for your dollar store felt leaf?  If so, please do share!

How did you know I was headed to Dollar Tree this morning? It’s as though you read my mind.

I’ve been thinking about making some sofa pillow covers just for the holidays but couldn’t find fabric that says both “Happy holidays, sweetie” and “Ooooh, LOVE your living room colors.” If I can find the right cutouts, I’m golden. Thanks.
