If you’re a pet lover, I guarantee you’re going to like the project I’m sharing with you today. This Upcycled DIY Pet Bed is part of this month’s Cent-Sational Salvage Challenge. What else would I do with an old chair than convert it into a pet bed? You know I love my fur babies!
Other than the fact that my sweet doggies will enjoy using this bed, what I love about this project is how cheap it was to make I already had the fabric, pillow, staples, paint and paint pen on hand to make this beautiful new DIY pet bed, so my only investment was $5.29 for the chair. Isn’t that amazing? You can’t get a classy pet bed like this anywhere for that price! Not only was this project easy on the budget, but it was a simple project to make. The most extensive part of this project was waiting for the paint to dry. I’m serious, it was soooo simple to make this darling DIY pet bed!
When I brought this chair home, it was pretty beat up and a little wobbly. I tightened up the screws, measured the legs, and patiently waited for my hubby to saw them off for me on his lunch break. Yes, he’s pretty awesome, isn’t he? (You can learn a little more about my amazing hubby here.) I was left with a short chair, the perfect height for my little fur babies to jump on.
Since chalk paint is the craze, I decided to brighten this chair up with some FolkArt Home Decor Chalk Paint in Seaside Villa. I love this paint and have used so many colors on so many projects. If you haven’t tried it out yet, you need to give it a try! It only took two coats to get the coverage I desired, and I love the finish.
Next I used a paint pen to write the message “Sweet Dreams” on the chair’s back. I know my doggies can’t read, but it makes this chair look oh-so-cute, doesn’t it?
I decided to upholster the seat of the chair with some black velour fabric a friend had given me. It’s so soft and silky, and makes this chair look classy. What can I say? Cosmo and Lanie are two classy pups and deserve the best! I used an extra pillow that I had on hand as the padding for the seat and used my staple gun to staple the fabric into place.
All done! Didn’t I tell you that this upcycled DIY pet bed was easy to make? All it took was sawing the legs, painting the chair and upholstering the seat. It was done in one afternoon!
Best of all, both Lanie and Cosmo are smitten with this chair, too. It’s the perfect size for them to sleep or relax in, and they love how soft the seat is to cuddle on!
There may be a power struggle over who gets to sit in this chair on some days, but trust me, these spoiled doggies have plenty of places to lounge on. They love resting in their pet drawer beds and on my IKEA couches, too!
I know that Cosmo and Lanie think this upcycled DIY pet bed is pretty awesome, but what do you think? How do you think I did on this month’s challenge?
OMG, this is the cutest!!!!! Great job Christie!! This certainly is cent-sational!!!
Thanks, Erica. It was such a fun project!
What a clever idea (and such an adorable model)!!!
Thanks! He’s the cheapest labor around…one doggie treat is all he needs to pose like that! 🙂
This is the cutest thing I’ve seen lately! I’m going to make sure that Gloria sees it. She may want to make one of her own for her little dachshund. What an awesome upcycle!
Thanks, Beverly! My doggies are pretty spoiled, if I must say so myself, but they are my babies. I’m thrilled you like this project! 🙂
Thanks Christie, I love his project! Pinned to the Cent-Sational Salvage Challenge board!
So cute! I love all the pet bed ideas! I am pinning to my ‘Spoiled Rotten’ board!
That sounds great! Yes, my two little ones are spoiled rotten…what a great name for your board! 🙂
Love it? Did you feel it was a pretty mint color in person? I am looking to do a dresser. Also, how many coats did it take? Thanks!
This color is beautiful, but the tint of this shade is like mint with a touch of blue. I used two coats on this project, which is typical with this paint. My new favorite chalk paint is by Waverly and is found in Walmart. There are a lot of colors to choose from so you might want to check them out. Good luck with your dresser!
