Did you see the lace painted desk I made for my niece that was featured on the blog last week? It is a true beauty! Not only is it beautiful, but it serves a great function as well. I’m so glad my niece will have a pretty but functional work station now. I was so busy redoing the desk, that it wasn’t until I was finished that I realized she needed a chair to accompany it. Every desk needs a chair, right? So, are you ready to see what I came up with? This Lion’s Paw Chair Makeover was such a fun project. It is such a beautiful chair, and I must be completely honest with you. I REALLY hated to give this chair away. I’m in love with it! The color, the fabric, the feet, I love everything about this chair. Except that it’s not mine, of course.
I took a trip to the local Goodwill store, and found this chair for a whopping $13.49. What a steal!
I love furniture with beautiful legs, and these lion’s paw front feet are just gorgeous!
This chair was a little scuffed up and required some loving, but the project was completed in less than 12 hours. I started out by sanding the piece all over to smooth out some rough areas and prepare the surface for painting. I coated it with primer, then my husband helped me out and applied two coats of Krylon Gloss Spray Paint in Ballet Slipper while I worked on the cushion.
I had to remove two layers of fabric from the seat of this chair. Check out what I found underneath. This chair was made with pine straw and cotton as the cushioning for the seat!
I replaced the pine straw with some foam I had on hand, and recovered it with this beautiful fabric. I actually found this fabric on clearance at Walmart and only paid $1.50 for it. What a deal!
Doesn’t the cushion look great on this chair? And those pink lion’s paws are to die for!
After a coat of sealer and attaching the cushion, the project was complete. You may notice a couple of imperfections that are visible in the wood, but I think it just adds to this chair’s character.
Want to see the change again? Check out the before and after pictures.
I am so glad I found this chair and was able to enhance its beauty with a little bit of effort. Behold the power of paint and some new fabric! What are your thoughts on this chair? I think this chair looks amazing. In fact, I’m definitely on the lookout for another, because I need one of these for myself!
