Coral Passion Chest Makeover

I am excited to share with you one of my favorite furniture re-do projects to date.  The only thing I regret about this project is that it is sheltered away in my guest bedroom and doesn’t receive the admiration it deserves on a daily basis.  I just fell in love with this color once I discovered it, and the rest is history!  This is what I started out with…

 HPIM3390

This was a Craigslist find for $20, and I knew it needed some love!   I was a little nervous about the laminate and mirrored finish on this chest, but I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did.  I cleaned it up and my hubby fixed the slides on a couple of the drawers for me.  Then I painted it with some homemade chalk paint and was surprised I had no trouble with the paint adhering to the finish.  Have you used homemade chalk paint before?  It is awesome!

 coral passion

I LOVE this color!  It is Valspar Coral Passion, and it just makes me smile.  I doctored it up with some unsanded grout to create a chalk paint.  No sanding, no priming, just start slapping it on!  The recipe I used called for 1 cup of flat paint mixed with 1 TBSP of unsanded grout.  I did a couple of coats, just to make sure it was covered properly.  Then I added new hardware since the original handles were broken.  Here is the final result:

Ta da!  Doesn’t it look lovely in my guest bedroom?  It fits perfectly against the narrow wall and looks great with the various blue/aqua tones in the room.  I love the way it brightens up the room!

I like this color so much I decided to use it on some other projects around the house.

Stay tuned and just maybe I’ll share them with you!

What do you think?  I bet you’re headed to Craigslist right now…I know I am!

I’d love to know about your furniture re-do favorite project.
