So, You Think You’re Not Creative Enough for Bible Journaling?

So, you think you're not creative enough for Bible journaling? Think again! It's not as hard you think when you use the right resources.

Although there were a few reasons why I hesitated at giving Bible journaling a try at first, one reason outweighed them all. I did not think I was creative or talented enough for Bible journaling. I didn’t think that my artwork could measure up to the beautiful hand drawn masterpieces I had seen on Pinterest. Who was I kidding? I hadn’t drawn since I was in high school!!

As the Holy Spirit continued to work on my heart, I finally made the decision to give it a try and I am so glad I did. Bible journaling has changed my life because it has brought me closer to God by giving me a thirst for His word that I haven’t had in years.

As much as I wish I’d had a hidden Picasso inside me that was discovered through Bible journaling, that’s not the case.  None of the pictures you see in this post are masterpieces according to today’s art critics. But what you do see is the evidence of a heart challenged and touched by the reading of God’s Holy Word. That’s what it’s all about after all – connecting with God through reading His Word.

So, you think you're not creative enough for Bible journaling? Think again! It's not as hard you think when you use the right resources.

There’s no right or wrong here, so if you think you’re not creative enough for Bible journaling, you need to think again. Journaling in your Bible can be as simple as highlighting a passage and writing your thoughts and prayers in the margins. It can be paint swiped across the page with stickers on top. It can be a watercolor background and colored penciled words. It can be stamped images. It’s whatever you are inspired to do. Go little or go big, it’s your choice.

If you feel you’re not creative enough and are unsure of where to start, I’d like to suggest the Illustrated Faith Starter Kit from DaySpring. It makes Bible journaling easy because it has all you need to get started (except a Bible). With cardstock stickers, a journaling mat, paints, Washi tape, pen, devotional book and more, you’ll be well on your way in minutes. There’s even a fantastic storage box to store all your new bible journaling goodies in. It looks so lovely on my desk!

The Pray Create Repeat devotional book included in the kit will encourage you in your journey. Shanna guides you through prompts to inspire you with ideas on how to journal in your Bible. This is perfect for a newbie or something in the beginning stages of Bible journaling.

While you might be afraid to paint or draw in your Bible, there are other ways you can express yourself. Stamping is an easy way to create something fun in your Bible. All you have to do is load the stamp on an acrylic block, load the stamp with ink for an ink pad and press it onto the page. I told you Bible journaling is easier than you think, so you have no excuses now!

I immediately fell in love with the devotional kits from Illustrated Faith by DaySpring. I recently went through the How He Loves Us Kit prior to Valentine’s Day and it really inspired me as I was reminded of God’s great love for me. You see the kits come with stamps, verse cards, stickers, Washi tape, paper clip and an ink pad. It’s like opening a present when you see all the pretty supplies included in these kits! I enjoyed this one so much I’ve already ordered all of the past kits.  There’s a new one each month and I can’t wait to see them revealed throughout the year.

You can see my pages are pretty simple. I like to paint or ink my page, then use the cardstock stickers included in the kit. See how easy it is to be creative with the Illustrated Faith products? I love how the stickers inspire me and provide a way for be to be creative without worrying about my artistic skills.

If you’re like me, you’ll become more adventurous over time and start slapping on the watercolors and paint like there’s no tomorrow, but these products are a great way to get your feet wet. You’ll find yourself incorporating them into your artwork more times than not, even as you become more experienced at Bible journaling.

My absolute favorite is this I Color In My Bible pouch. It holds my devotional booklet and goodies that I’m working on along with my favorite pens. It’s just so cute it makes my heart sing!

I hope I’ve convinced you to give Bible journaling a try, even if you think you’re not creative enough. Trust me…you are! With these products by Illustrated Faith you’ll find yourself being creative without having to try so hard. With stamps, inks, stickers and more, you’ll be inspired with these colorful products.

Thank you for posting this! I definitely do not “think” that I have a creative bone in my body, so I immediately steered away from this activity. Lots of ladies in my church love bible journaling. I love the dayspring kit, I think that is definitely something that I can work with.

What Bible are you using for this amazing journey in journaling? My Bible doesn’t have huge margins like your photos show.

The Bible in this post is the Inspire Bible, but any journaling Bible will have margins for you to draw and write notes in. I hope this helps!
