It’s no secret that the price of home appliances keeps going up and up. Especially with all the new technology and conveniences they have to offer us. But don’t get discouraged if you’re in need of new home appliances because I have good news! Yes, if it’s time for you to shop for appliances, there’s absolutely no reason to panic. There are several ways you can save money on your purchase. Here are just a few tips that will help you save money on new appliances for your home today.
Wait for Sales
Whenever possible, it behooves you to wait for holiday sales to buy major home appliances. Both Labor Day and Black Friday are perfect examples of this. Why? It’s typically the time when new models are introduced and the previous year’s inventory is sold at a (deep) discount. If you can wait until the big sales you could possibly save hundreds of dollars on your new purchases.
Consider “Scratch and Dent” Inventory
Depending on the retailer, it’s sometimes possible to purchase a “scratch and dent” appliance for as much as 50 percent off. I’ve been known to keep a lookout at my local Lowe’s Home Improvement Store for these types of great deals. You get the same function and warranty without the full price if you don’t mind a scratch or two. Some merchants even sell this inventory online and offer free shipping to boot.
Say “No” to Extended Warranties
Between the manufacturer’s warranty and the extra protection you typically receive from your credit card company (when using your card), you almost always have enough repair coverage at your disposal. In fact, Consumer Reports recommends that it’s smarter to keep up with appliance maintenance than to spend extra money on an extended warranty.
Buy Used
There’s certainly nothing wrong with buying a used appliance in excellent condition. Whether you patronize your local used appliance store or look for something on sites like Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace, when you find exactly what you’re looking for (at a much lower price) it’s a win-win situation. Just a quick reminder. When purchasing from either one of these options, always make sure the appliance works properly before taking it off the premises. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
As you can see, there are several ways to save money on home appliances. It’s so important to do adequate research as well as take your time to shop around for the best deals. Appliances aren’t cheap. And, in this case, knowledge really IS power!
