What do you make with an old dirty table and some supplies from the dollar store? An upcycled Valentine’s Day countdown, of course! Well, that’s what I make with them, and my hubby won’t be complaining. As long as he gets spoiled with 14 days of valentine treats, he’s in. And I must admit, I am, too. I wasn’t sure how this project was going to turn out, but friends, I’m in love with the way it turned out! What do you think?
For the past couple of years I’ve been doing 14 days of valentines for my husband, but this year I decided to do something different. I’ll be completely honest with you, the real reason is because my bucket of cute sayings and puns I could use about candy was dry. It was time to move on, so I decided to get creative and have some fun with it. I came up with the idea of a Valentine’s Day “clock”, and when I spotted this table for just a few bucks at a thrift store, I knew it would be perfect for my project. I love a good upcycled, repurposed craft, don’t you?
Materials for this project:
- Round table top
- 14 Heart-shaped trinket boxes
- Rub-on transfer numbers
- Black adhesive vinyl
- Glue (Hot glue or strong adhesive glue)
- Picture hanging wire
- Candy
My next stop was The Dollar Tree. I scored with these little heart-shaped boxes, it was just $1 for both packs!
I unscrewed the legs off the table then painted the top of it with some white chalk paint. It took a couple of coats of paint, so while it was drying I applied some rub-on transfer numbers I had leftover from another project.
OK, now that I’ve got my 14 days of valentine boxes ready to go, it’s time to turn this table top into a “clock”! I positioned the boxes on the piece of wood just like you would a clock and secured them to the wood with glue. You can use hot glue or any strong adhesive glue to do this.
I made some clock hands out of black adhesive vinyl and arranged them on the clock. You get to choose what “time” it is at your house! It’s almost time for love at the Selken home, but not quite…
The last step was to add treats to each heart box. There may be a little love note hidden in there, too. 🙂
All that was left was to attach some picture wire on the back and then hang that baby on the wall!
I know my hubby is going to have fun getting a treat each day as we countdown the 14 days leading up to Valentine’s Day together. I wonder if he’ll share them with me???
I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun upcycled project. It only cost me $6 to make this beauty. How awesome is that? So tell me….how will YOU countdown the days until Valentine’s Day this year?
