Thanks for checking back to see what other thrift store finds I’ve added sparkle to this week. I must admit, when shopping years ago, I would have passed on many of my finds. But that was before I knew how easy it is to bring new life to an object with a can of spray paint, new fabric and a little effort. I’ve learned to see items for their potential, and not by their current state of condition. That leads us to the next project: the office chair makeover!
You can see by the before picture that this chair clearly needed some love.
But…I saw her potential, and $2.99 price tag…
and instantly knew I could give this chair a makeover she wouldn’t forget!
I started by taking the chair apart, and gave the base a coat of Valspar’s Metallic Satin Nickel Finish spray paint I already had on hand. Step one done!
As you can see, these cushions were hideous. What can I say? I must call it as I see it. The material was faded and worn, and it was hard to imagine it had seen better days. All it took was a trip to Jo-Ann Fabric Store to change all of that!
I was a little worried the bright metallic finish on the chair could be a little overwhelming, so I was searching for something to tone it down a bit. I found this awesome white fabric with tiny silver metallic polka dots, which matched the color of the base perfectly. I had an “Ah-ha!” moment right there in the store aisle. It was perfect!
After removing the old fabric, I used some spray adhesive first to get the new fabric to stick to the foam cushion. Then I used the staple gun to secure the fabric underneath. I reassembled the chair, and a few screws later, here’s the result!
Isn’t she lovely? What a big change in impact, with minimal effort.
Let’s check out the before and after pictures again!
The cost was only about $11 for this project since I already had the paint and adhesive spray on hand. Do you think you could find a stylish office chair for that price at Staples? I think not! I hope you like this chair as much as I do. I was pleased with the result, and think I just may keep it around for a while. You can let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment below. I would love to hear from you!
