Have you considered a hanging sign for your front door instead of a wreath? I love making wreaths, but decided I wanted something a little different this year to decorate my front door for the fall season. I’m so glad I tried something new, because I love my new DIY monogrammed pumpkin door decor for fall.
When I pulled my autumn wreath out of the attic and placed it on my door this year, I knew I wanted something new to decorate my front door for fall. I wanted something that reminded me of fall, but something a little more stylish and less traditional than the usual fall wreaths you see on display. After some brainstorming, I decided a hanging pumpkin sign for my front door was the answer. So I made a trip to my local AC Moore & Crafts Store to grab some supplies and then it was time to get to work on this easy project.
I started out with a letter and a pumpkin cut out. I primed and painted the pumpkin with white spray paint. I originally had planned on painting gold stripes on the pumpkin, but while I was waiting for the paint to dry I remembered my houndstooth stencil and the plan changed. I absolutely adore houndstooth, and since my front door rug is a white and orange houndstooth pattern, the decision was an easy one to make. I used my stencil and some orange chalk paint I had on hand to bring some color to my white pumpkin.
I spray painted my letter first with a coat of orange spray paint, then after it dried I did another coat with black spray paint. Once the letter was dry, I used some sandpaper to scruff it up a bit and stood back to admire my handiwork. Can I just say that the result is pretty fabulous? I mean, look at that beautiful letter!! I love the orange detail showing through the black, don’t you?
I used my new favorite glue, gorilla glue, to adhere my monogrammed letter to the pumpkin and waited for it to dry. After adding some wire to the back with a staple gun, it was time to add some life to my front door and hang up my monogrammed pumpkin door decor.
Oh my goodness, just looking at this beautiful houndstooth pumpkin just makes me swoon. Since I’m a sweet potato pie type of girl, I never thought I’d be so crazy about pumpkin, but this pumpkin door decor has got me hooked!! The best part about this project was that it was cheap and easy to make. Since I used paint I already had on hand, it only cost me $7.50 for supplies to make this pumpkin door decor for fall. Isn’t that a steal for the fun monogrammed pumpkin hanging on my door?? I think so!
Don’t worry, if you’re looking for a more traditional wreath idea for fall this year, I am planning on making one since I have both a front and back door to decorate. I’ll be showing it here soon, so be sure to check back with me. Until then, I’ll just sit here and admire my new pumpkin door decor as I fall into the new season.
