Books anyone? I think it’s an accurate assumption that most homes in America have at least one book they don’t need collecting dust somewhere. Perhaps it’s crying out to be read, to be used as a coaster or doorstop, to be donated to a local charity, to be made into a wreath, etc. What? You’ve never considered using those beautiful book pages to make an awesome wreath for your home? Well, you’ve come to the right place, because I’m here to inspire you. Let me show you how to make an easy book page wreath today.I can almost hear you running to your bookshelves now and ripping out the pages for this project! As an ex English teacher/book-hoarder, I never imagined I would tear up a beautiful book to use for decoration. But that was my life before my Kindle Fire. I can’t even tell you the last time I read a book I could hold in my hand. Who needs old books just lying around? It’s time to give them new life!
All you really need for this project is a book, glue gun, wreath form and tape. I decided to use one of my grandmother’s old books, just so I can think of her every time I look at it. Maybe you want to use the awful book you were forced to read in high school? The book you choose is up to you, but the first thing you need to do is tear out those wonderful pages! Form them into angled rolls and secure them. I used tape for this because it was fast and easy, but you can glue them if you want the extra hassle.
Now that you have those beautiful book page rolls, it’s time to start gluing them to your wreath form. I didn’t have one on hand when I started this project, so I made my own from a piece of plastic poster board. So far it’s held up great, and I don’t even need to use a wreath hanger because the poster board hangs right onto the picture hook!
Now that you have the rolls completed, start gluing them around the form one at a time. This part does require some patience, but it’s pretty easy. This is what mine looked like after the first layer.
Next, you get to do it again. Yay! I glued two layers of book page rolls for my wreath, and then used a few extra to fill in any gaps to make it even. That’s it! I hate to admit it was super easy, because I always get compliments on it when people visit my home. It’s nice for people to think it required a lot of hard work to complete this project, but it really didn’t. Let’s keep it our secret, ok?
Check out how beautiful the rolls appear looks when viewed from the side!
So what do you think of this project? Do you feel brave enough to try it? Maybe you’ve already used book pages for another craft project around your home. If so, I’d love to hear about it. Share it with me!
I hear it again…the faint sound of book pages being ripped from their spines…happy crafting!
