Today I’m going to share with you how I made this super cute Holiday Pom-Pom Infinity Scarf for my niece. This project didn’t end up the way I had initially imagined it. It turned out so much better! Luckily for me, my mistakes forced me improvise my plans, and I achieved a better result in the end. Ready for the saga of the Holiday Pom-Pom Infinity Scarf? Here goes!
I started out with this cute holiday turtleneck I picked up at the Goodwill store. I loved the combination of greens, reds and pinks in this shirt, and knew it would make an adorable scarf for my niece. My initial plans were to make a simple infinity scarf out of this shirt.
I started out by cutting the sleeves and neck off of the shirt.
Next, I cut two pieces of the fabric equally to form two rectangles. I then placed the pieces right side in and used my sewing machine to sew the short ends together. This is when I realized this project may not turn out how I had envisioned.
If you had chosen a shirt with print on both sides of the material, you could end the project here and call it a day. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t think of this when I purchased the shirt and the print was only on one side. I didn’t like this because when you put the scarf on, you could see the white on the inside. (You can see the white on the picture below.)
I had to put my thinking cap on to correct this issue. So, I decided to add a crochet border to the scarf. I punched holes evenly around the scarf on both sides and single crocheted around the border with some green yarn I had on hand.
I then remembered I had this cute leftover Bernat Puff Ball Holidays yarn, so I added a row of single crochet with it next. Then, I folded the scarf so both edges met with right sides facing out, and used the green yarn to join with a slip stitch.
Now only the print side shows, and the pom-pom edge is just adorable to me!
In the end, I’m glad I made the mistake and bought one sided material, because this Holiday Pom-Pom Infinity Scarf is so girly and cute. The white pom-poms really make this scarf pop! I can’t wait to give it to my niece!
What do you think of the way this scarf turned out? Have you ever started a project that went wrong, but redeemed yourself by improvising? If so, please share it with me. I love hearing from you!
