Every year when fall rolls around my hubby decides to grow out his beard. Although I think he looks quite sexy with a beard, there’s nothing worse than snuggling up to a scratchy beard all winter. I did some research and found out that to my amazement beards have become so popular now that there are all kinds of beard grooming products. Beard wax, beard balm, beard oil, even beard shampoo can be purchased to help men keep their beards in check. Since I didn’t want to spend $10-20 for a small bottle of beard oil, I decided it was time to make a DIY beard oil and save some money.
I chose to make a DIY beard oil because it is hydrating to both the beard hair and the skin hidden underneath. You’ll cure dry, flaky winter skin while conditioning the hair so it’s a win-win. Beard oil also works like a groomer, so good-bye shaggy beard! The oil makes the hair shiny and the beard will appear well-groomed since the oil eliminates both fly away hairs and flakes. Now that’s a beard I won’t mind snuggling up to! Let me share with you this simple recipe.
DIY Beard Oil Ingredients:
- 1 oz Apricot Oil
- 7 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil
- 7 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
- Small glass bottle with dropper
Note: Essential oils will break down plastic bottles, so it’s important to use a glass bottle. I purchased mine at The Vitamin Shoppe for just a couple of dollars.
Directions:
This is pretty simple because all you do is add the ingredients together in a small drop bottle and shake gently to mix well. Easy peasy!
DIY Beard Oil Usage:
The best time to apply beard oil is immediately after showering because the skin will absorb it better when the pores are open. To use, massage 3-5 drops of the DIY beard oil into the beard and skin. A beard comb can be used to make sure the oil is dispersed evenly if desired.
